Sometimes I stand on a roadside, sit in a main road coffee shop and just indulge in watching people. Everybody seems to rush for something to somewhere. When I abstract myself from the environment and just watch from a distance, it seems life flows before me.
We live in a fast moving world or it seems like that. Success seems to like speed. Changes brought by the technology fuels the changes in every aspect of our lives. Not only living standards, ethics, values and many other good deeds change for better, some degenerate.
I know many people from all walks of life. In business, sports, social activities etc. But since childhood I have been very picky on close friends. I have very few of them and value them highly. I know I can count on them, ask them favours. I can cling on them when I need to. They know me the same (I am certain).
I also met a few who managed to get very close but could not hang on there. Like a child attaches to his/her mum or dad, we attach to these people in some degree. Honesty is the best policy and the basis of any relationship. It hurts to see someone you love, value, admire, give importance and make a close intimate connection with crumble and diminish under the falsehood.
Caught up in the current of life sometimes we lose the control and look for a branch to cling on hoping to get a helping hand. We all need it, which is what makes us human.
Throughout our life path, we identify these branches, when our roads cross; we become a branch for others to cling on too. Some branches are green, fruitful, pleasant, soft and strong, accommodating and some are not. Some will hold on and will not decay in the worst climate, some will. As we age, we grow like a tree with lots of branches to allow others to cling on. If the ones who cling on us say “that branch is rotten, don’t cling on it”, we become one of the losers in humanity.
When in need, those branches we need to cling on will be our family and friends. If we are married, naturally, first branch to cling on should be our other half. Therefore, it is very important to choose the right life partner. Same goes for the close friends too. I will not ask how many of us can cling on to our life partners under the worst cases? It could be very saddening.
Trust is not given, it is earned. Being a trustworthy person takes a lifetime’s work. Having true friends that are reliable and can go extra miles for us is a must. We never know when our lives will turn upside down, although sometimes the down side may be better than the upside.
We have no idea what our falsehood causes in others, especially the ones most close to us. What sort of damage it does how it hurts, and how much pain gives and how long suffering endures our lies. It damages our souls; make us lose trust in others. We go through a mental turbulence, it creates an internal conflict.
If used in the right direction, all this force us to grow, be more, do more and realize that we are part of something much bigger and better.
The universe is not a mere coincidence. It has its laws in much precise manner. What we put out in deed and thought has consequences and eventually it will catch up with us.
