Since covid pandemic, we have experienced dramatic changes in our lives. The effects are ranging from one side of the spectrum to the other. Earlier this year, I was able to travel to the UK with several PCR tests. However, as of now I can’t go at all, due to Turkey having been placed in the UK’s “red zone”. It costs too much. So, the travel restrictions are affecting our family life and my life in general.
Using facemasks and experiencing lockdowns has had psychological effects on most people across all age groups. Unfortunately, I have witnessed this at first hand with some people I know who have had to spend all their time in flats.
While some refuse to get vaccinated others queue for it. I belong to the former group. I don’t believe that it’s safe. People are having two Sinovacs and adding one Pfizer-BioNTech on top to make themselves safer. It’s ridiculous. Also, there is a deliberate suppression of alternative anti-vaccination news.
Another thing I have observed is that many people have become more “spiritual”. Some of the subjects I browse and watch on YouTube out of interest are Global famine, extra-terrestrial beings, astrology predictions, covid pandemic, Anunnaki, planet Sirius, Agartha, Shambala, time travel, the photon belt etc. The list and so-called experts on them are endless.
Apparently, we are all awakening and moving to a new era. Or are we?
I haven’t noticed any particularly good change in the people where I live in Turkey. The only awakening I can see is that they have increased their evil deeds.
In my article Abstract Subjects, I talked briefly about how some people (although not all) monetise and abuse these spiritual subjects. This seems to apply to every non-qualifiable, non-measurable spiritual, or emotional subject. I don’t know how much the proponents make from either their YouTube Channel or the desperate people simply trying to find a solution to their issues. Such distressed people may not able to think straight but I find it unethical to profit from them.
I have been using The Daily Stoic Journal by Ryan Holiday for a second year running. It teaches Stoicism a little every day. It makes me think how to better myself, how to do good, how to be a better person. This helps me deal with busybodies, the ungrateful, egomaniacs, liars, jealous people and cranks. And still be able to live a better life.
This is what Marcus Aurelius says in today’s reading.
“In your actions, don’t procrastinate. In your conversations, don’t confuse. In your thoughts, don’t wander. In your soul, don’t be passive or aggressive. In your life, don’t be all about business.” ~ Meditations, 8.51
I do take good points from Stoicism or any other good source. These are the sources of goodness in our daily life; reminding us to be on the good side at all times.
“The biggest battle is the war against ignorance.” ~ Ataturk
